Mom: Boy Wrapped in Toilet Paper, Set on Fire in Prank

SALT LAKE CITY — The mother of an 11-year-old boy who was wrapped in toilet paper and then accidentally set on fire says the whole thing started as prank by her son's 13-year-old brother.

"It was not intentional," Renee Morgan said during a news conference Tuesday at the University of Utah Hospital, where Tyler Morgan was in critical condition. "It was kids just playing and being kids."

Tyler and his brother Chris were playing a game with a group of neighborhood friends at an Orem park Monday when they wrapped Tyler in toilet paper against a pole, said Capt. Ned Jackson of Orem's public safety department.

They then wrapped more toilet paper around four poles in a pavilion to make a wrestling ring, Jackson said. Jackson said Tyler was a willing participant up to that point.

But one of the boys' friends used a lighter to set some of the toilet paper on fire, underestimating how quickly it would burn, Renee Morgan said.

When the fire began to spread, Chris Morgan began to try to stomp it out and accidentally set his foot on fire and lit the paper wrapped around his brother, their mother said.

Tyler Morgan suffered burns on 14 percent of his upper body, including his face, neck and ears.

He is being treated at University Hospital.

He already has a friend nearby — Bridger Hunt, who was critically injured July 24 by an exploding homemade firework.

Bridger Hunt's mother, Mindy Carter-Shaw, said that Tyler had called and e-mailed her daily to ask about her son's condition and visited him at Primary Children's Medical Center, which is next door to where Tyler is being treated.

"These two boys are inseparable. Bridger and Tyler have been best friends for years. They live around the corner from each other," Carter-Shaw said. "I can't believe it. This is unreal — unbelievable."

The Morgans' mother said the boy who lit the fire has been apologetic.

"Kids are going to be kids," she said. "They are going to experiment."

or dreams, some people call them dreams.

so i was trying to book tickets to see d.a. and couldn't get anywhere and i went to the venue to get the tickets. when i got there, the ticket agent was such an idiot. i turned to leave and grabbed the guy i was with, spotted a bar that is owned by this guy i know so i go in but walk out for some reason. as i walk out, i watch as some guy starts crossing the road and gets nailed by a car.

by now there's a huge crowd outside and nobody is doing anything. the car is stopped and the guy is on the hood. i start to walk in to the bar and behind the bar is not the bartender/owner but george clooney. already i'm happy because he and i are talking like we knew each other. i try to get him to help me get a hold of the authorities but he just went and grabbed a chair and sat down to stare at the guy.

i turned to the guy i was with and it was d.a. i was happy to see him and wanted to talk to him but then i woke up to the sounds of my neighbor and her boyfriend and, well, you know where that's going so i'll stop.

have i mentioned i hate being alone?

oh wait, it's me who hasn't posted. well, not too much to post about really.

it's almost vacation time - going to vegas for a wonderful weekend with "my girls!!" and probably will and jessica *i need to let them know i'm coming lol* then it's off to disneyworld! i've never been so this will be a first!! next year i'm taking mom to nyc - just her and i - then i'll take the kid to nyc. that'll be fun!! i'm already looking into different hotels but i really think i want to go back to the one i had last time. it had a kitchen so that would be great for mom and i.

what else... what else... work is okay. nothing too exciting. oh oh oh! guess who's coming back to oregon?? yup yup!! that's right!! 2 nights in october and i'm going to both!! i'm also taking the next day off so i can snooze. can you tell i'm excited about it?? yeah, i am *sigh*

see what i mean? nothing too exciting to blog about lol have a great night!!

well the first month of the bc has come and gone - without incident i might add!! this month i'll take it as normal but next month... i have two vacations back to back and they fall on the week of the faux pills. yeah, not taking them that month! ahh bed time - later!!

good god, i forgot just how horrible pms could be! it could have been the heat too but man, when my garbage disposal decided to crap out on me i went beserk!!

i tried to get the pipes disconnected and none of the rings want to come loose and that gets me more fired up! i decided to give up and let the apartment manager see if he could fix it - guess i should ask him to do so soon. i can't do dishes or really use the sink. when i tried to use the disposal, i got stuff to go down but it came back up with brown water. now the egg shells are all finely chopped so i know the blades work and some of the water goes down but very slowly. it sucks because my dishwasher backs up into the sink from time to time. oooooh i should go check the dishwasher! guess i'll be back later!

i went back to brunette - the natural me - well more natural. i wanted to even out the bleachy orange and blonde spots. my hair is a bit darker at the bottom, that's where it was a bit darker to begin with.

almost all one color - in the brown department
it's still almost one color
the back side - my hair is brown but darker at the bottom

we have finished week 1 and so far, nothing out of the ordinary!! nothing compared to the last bc!! *dances* now if only my dr. would have listened to me and given me this one instead of the other one, but oh well, we move forward!!

we were all set to go to the zoo to do the dino exhibit like we have been but i had to back us out of a few weeks - thank to the oh so wonderful rise in gas prices. thankfully they understood (and really, who shouldn't?). i feel bad because this was something that we were going to do to give back and we only did that for 3 weeks. we'll go back up someday but right now it costs me (or heather) about $40 in gas just to get up there and back. for me, after that $40, it still costs me another $40 for the rest of the week just to go to/from work. craziness! we won't be going to see my parents very much this summer. this really blows!

i got my nkotb concert ticket in the mail today!! i know i know, yes, nkotb. yes i know they're old(er) but you know what?? i don't care!! i NEVER got to see them live like i have nsync and now is my only chance and i'm not gonna blow it!! i can't wait till november now!!

long time no post. how have you been? i've been okay, thanks for asking. i really should be in the shower - i have to get ready for our zoo ambassador program and i'm a little behind and heather will be here soon!

so, perhaps you know or maybe you don't. i chronicled my "oh so wonderful" experience on the birth control yaz. let me give you a quick rundown in case you don't know what i am talking about. i just want to regulate/have my period - i'm rather inconsistent with those - so i talked to my dr. and he got me set up on yaz. i started taking it and started to flow - that's normal, it'll go away, just keep taking it says my dr. this guy had never steered me wrong so i keep taking it and i don't stop flowing. i finally get to a nurse practitioner and she tells me to stop - viola - and now the flow stops. we do some tests to see if there's something wrong with me (shush up, i know!) and i'm "normal".

after that wonderful experience, i'm trying a different bc and just started taking it today - very nervous. i don't want to go through that again. i couldn't sleep well, it was affecting my work and personal life and sucked!!! anywhoo *raises glass of water* here's to flow free regulation!!

did you watch "the mole"? i usually can't/don't pick who i think is the mole till the 3rd or 4th episode but tonight i thought i'd give it a shot. i had to wait till one person was sent home though.

i just saw the new sex and the city movie and i cried and laughed! there were several scenes where i could have cried so much more than i did! there was one quote i loved... "i moved to nyc for love." i've gone to nyc for love - the love of the city - and i've got to get back there! even my mom (in not so many words) seems to think i belong there. she asked if i had purchased my trip to nyc and i told her i hadn't, i just can't go right now like i'd love to. she meant to say vegas. deep down, i wonder if she knows i'm moving there.

hey, if anyone out there lives in nyc, can you give me some ideas of a good place to live with my son (age 10) and where i should avoid?

i'm looking for flights to orlando for our trip to wdw and i found a decent round trip for 2 for $728 and that was for a red-eye flight getting us there the morning of our scheduled arrival. i tried southwest and apparently they don't have any red-eye flights but if we left that same day *just super early*, we could save $142.

now, i know you're thinking, "but where would you sleep?". those who have known me since the early 2000's, you know where i would LOVE to spend a night *wink wink, nudge nudge* but i figured i'd be nice and stay one more night at the disney resort. i looked at the price of the hotel for one more night and it's only $107. i'm still saving almost $40 - enough for dinner and breakfast because my kid is like me and we're cheap!! we can eat cheap!!

we'd still have time to play in the park or, even better for the kid, we could go swimming since we probably wouldn't get to do that during the week we're there. i know, i know! a week and we can't go swimming? wtf?? yeah, we're ones who love to play all day on vacation. as it is, i keep trying to tell myself that i'm going to go relax by the pool in vegas but that has yet to happen!

so my question is this... what would you do? myself, i'm leaning towards going the extra day and swimming/resting/checking out the different resorts. but that's one more day that i could have used for packing and saying goodbye (computer is staying home).

here's the link to the dino videos i took last weekend. i worked my first shift this weekend in the rain and even though it was just sprinkling, the trail was rather busy. it made the time go by quickly even though nobody really talked to us. we go back again this coming weekend too!!

my annual came back normal as did the ultrasound. i'll call monday and talk to the doctor and if my memory is correct, we're going to skip the biopsy and probably try another form of bc to regulate me. this time though, if i start to experience the same issues as the last one for even a couple days i will call her back and try again. i guess i was one of those "rare cases" you see on the advertisements. i'm just glad i'm "normal"!

i'm curious, you don't have to answer or get personal, but in a conference i attended today my company claims we are one of the top 5 most admired banks in the country and i've got three questions for you:

1. what bank(s) do you admire?

2. what makes them an admirable bank?

3. is there one person in the bank you trust/distrust? why?

like i said, it's not scientific but i'm curious. also, i'm wanting to improve the experience customers have when they walk through my doors so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ;D

from soda/pop/coke/whatever you call it, i can say i haven't been "a good girl". i have only had 3 sodas this week (my definition of a "week" is sunday thru saturday) and only ate bad *but yummy* cheese bread once this week. i haven't been doing well at the exercise though, but i did go on a 3 mile walk today and it only took an hour. it felt very good to know i can do it. it's not something i can do every day but i can do smaller chunks during the work week.

i have also tried to limit my sweets, my drive-thru meals (which i have not had any this week), and the use of salt. wait, i did have wendy's this week but i had an iced tea, grilled chicken sandwich, and a baked potato. i did have a long island iced tea last night when i was out with kim, lai, and holly and we did have dessert - yummy!

to all the mother's on my list and those who read this - happy mother's day!!

i have a couple of questions for anyone who has xm radio service. i'm looking for one to mesh with my car and i'm not sure what the difference in the radios is. which radio system do you have? does one have to have a cassette deck to use it or are there other ways to hook them up? i looked at one that recorded programs but the website was really no help.
